Summer in PEC is pure magic. Discover the 12 best things to do in Prince Edward County: rom wineries and beaches to scenic hikes and cozy places to stay.
There’s something special about summer in Prince Edward County. Maybe it’s the way the sunlight hits the vineyards just right, or how the lake breeze makes you forget you’re only a few hours from the city. The first time I visited, I thought I’d just go for the wine. But I ended up falling for the beaches, the hidden trails, the food trucks parked by farm fields, and the cozy spots where time seems to slow down.
If you’ve already explored PEC in the fall or bundled up for a cozy winter weekend in the County, you’ll love what summer has to offer. And if it’s your first time visiting, you’re in for a treat.
Here are 12 of the best things to do in Prince Edward County this summer, from local gems to can’t-miss experiences.

Here are all the best things to do in Prince Edward County this Summer!

12 Things to do in Prince Edward County
1. Take a wine tour and visit a few of PEC’s iconic wineries
Prince Edward County has quietly become one of Canada’s most exciting wine regions. Thanks to its unique climate and limestone-rich soil, the County produces crisp, mineral-forward wines — especially Chardonnay and Pinot Noir — that rival those from much more famous regions. The wine scene here feels intimate and down-to-earth, with family-run vineyards, small-batch production, and beautiful tasting rooms tucked into rolling countryside.
Spend an afternoon sipping your way through local vineyards. Some of my favorites include Karlo Estate, Three Dog Winery, Trail Estate Winery, The Grange, Closson Chase Vineyard, and Huff Estate.
Want to make it extra fun (and safe)? Book a wine tour and let someone else do the driving : Get Corked and My County Wine Tour offer great options. If you want a unique experience, Vintage Car Wine Tours offers tours in – well! one of their vintage cars!

2. Spend a Beach Day at Sandbanks Provincial Park
If you’re craving a proper summer beach day, Sandbanks Provincial Park is the place to be. Located right in Prince Edward County, this park is home to some of the best sandy beaches in all of Ontario — wide, soft, and perfect for laying out a towel and doing absolutely nothing (or everything).
There are three main beaches, each with its own vibe. Outlet Beach is a favorite for families, with warm, shallow water and a gentle slope — ideal for wading or floating for hours. Dunes Beach is more dramatic, with towering sand dunes that lead right down to the water, offering stunning views and a bit of a wild, untamed feel. For a quieter experience, Lakeshore Beach tends to be less crowded and just as beautiful.
Beyond the beach, Sandbanks also offers walking trails through forests and wetlands, great birdwatching (especially during migration season), and nearby access to East and West Lake if you’re into boating or fishing.
Pro tip // Sandbanks is popular in the summer, and the park often hits capacity by mid-morning. Plan to arrive early, especially on weekends, and book a day-use permit in advance if possible. You’ll also find picnic areas, washrooms, and other facilities to make your beach day stress-free.
THE DETAILS
Where | Find Sandbanks Provincial Park on Google Map here.
Price | 15.50$ per car for a day park permit.

3. Go Kayaking or Paddleboarding on West Lake or Lake Ontario
One of the best ways to experience summer in PEC is from the water. Whether you’re paddling across the calm waters of West Lake or gliding along the shores of Lake Ontario, kayaking and paddleboarding give you a peaceful and scenic way to explore the County’s natural beauty. Early mornings are especially magical — just you, the water, and the soft sounds of nature.
If you don’t have your own gear, there are several great local rental options. West Lake Watersports (just minutes from Sandbanks) offers kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and more — plus, it’s right next to the Dunes, so you can paddle with an epic backdrop. For a quieter paddle, Cabin Fever Kayak on the Black River is a lovely spot, perfect for birdwatching and wildlife sightings. Or, if you want gear delivered right to you, PEC Kayaks offers flexible rentals with delivery options across the County.
Just don’t forget your life jacket — and maybe your camera, too.

4. Grab Lunch at One of the Farm-to-Table Restaurants
Prince Edward County is bursting with fresh, local flavour — and there’s no better way to experience it than by grabbing lunch at one of the many farm-to-table spots scattered throughout the region. One standout is Parsons Brewing Company in Picton, where heritage buildings, craft beer, and seasonal ingredients come together in the coziest way. Their outdoor space is perfect for a casual summer lunch, and the menu changes with what’s available locally — think tacos, wood-fired fare, and fresh salads that pair beautifully with their small-batch beers.
For a more elevated but still down-to-earth experience, The Royal Hotel in Picton offers a refined take on local cuisine. Led by Chef Albert Ponzo, their Italian-inspired menu celebrates regional produce and meats in a beautifully restored space. If you’re looking for something extra special, Littlejohn Farm hosts intimate farm-to-table events that include workshops and long-table dinners right on the farm.

5. Sip Cider or Craft Beer at a Local Cidery, Brewery, or Distillery
Prince Edward County’s drink scene is as vibrant as its food — with small-batch ciders, crisp craft beers, and creative cocktails all made right here in the County. Start at Parsons Brewing Company, a family-owned spot in Picton where the beer is brewed with care and the vibe is warm and laid-back. Their beer garden is perfect on a summer afternoon, with picnic tables, shady trees, and a relaxed menu that pairs perfectly with a flight of seasonal brews.
Looking for a view with your pint? Slake Brewing is perched on a limestone hill, offering sweeping views of the surrounding countryside and a sleek, airy taproom. It’s one of those places where you’ll want to stay a while. For cider fans, The County Cider Company is a must — their estate-grown apple ciders are crisp and refreshing, and the patio overlooking Lake Ontario is truly stunning. And if spirits are more your style, Wild Lot Farm Distillery serves up handcrafted cocktails in a beautifully restored barn with a wildflower-dotted meadow out back. It’s rustic, stylish, and uniquely PEC.

6. Book a VIP Picnic Experience
If you’re looking to slow things down and soak up the County’s natural beauty in the most Instagrammable way possible, a VIP picnic is the way to do it. The County Picnic offers curated picnic experiences that feel straight out of a magazine spread — complete with cozy cushions, low tables, and a locally-sourced spread you didn’t have to lift a finger to prepare.
Created by Andrea and Edu, a Canadian-Spanish couple with a background in international tourism, The County Picnic brings together local food, scenic views, and beautifully styled setups in some of PEC’s prettiest locations. Their VIPicnic Experience includes everything you need for a dreamy summer afternoon. It’s PEC at its most charming, and honestly, the only thing you need to do is show up hungry.
8. Visit a Local Farm
One of the best ways to connect with the roots of Prince Edward County (literally and figuratively) is to visit one of its many local farms. Campbell’s Orchards is a classic stop — a family-run farm offering seasonal apple and pumpkin picking, a fun corn maze, wagon rides, and a market filled with fresh produce, local goods, and even their own small-batch cider. It’s especially great for families or anyone looking for a low-key, feel-good outing.
For something a little more immersive, Littlejohn Farm offers hands-on workshops and intimate farm-to-table dinners that dive into sustainable agriculture and food culture. Flower lovers should make time for Floralora Flowers, a dreamy, eco-conscious flower farm that also runs seasonal floral workshops and often appears at local markets. And if you’re in the mood for something totally unique, head to Noble Beast Farms, home to over 80 alpacas. They offer guided tours where you’ll meet the animals and learn all about their quirky personalities and how their luxurious wool is used. It’s charming, educational, and one of the most unexpectedly joyful things to do in PEC.

7. Take a Cooking Class with Enid Grace
If you love the idea of slowing down and truly tasting the County, a cooking class with Enid Grace is a must. Based in Wellington, Enid is a beloved figure in PEC’s culinary scene — known for her European-inspired cooking, warm hospitality, and deep love of local ingredients. Her classes are more than just lessons; they’re experiences. You’ll learn how to make rustic Italian dishes, perfect a French pastry, or explore seasonal recipes using fresh, regional produce.
The vibe is relaxed, intimate, and often includes stories, laughs, and plenty of hands-on practice — all in a charming setting that feels like a cross between a farmhouse kitchen and a cozy café. Whether you’re visiting solo, with a friend, or planning something special like a birthday or bachelorette weekend, this is the kind of memory you’ll take home and actually use again. Be sure to check her schedule in advance — spots fill up fast.
9. Catch a Movie at the Mustang Drive-In
There’s something undeniably magical about watching a movie under the stars, and Mustang Drive-In PEC brings all the vintage vibes. Operating since 1954, this classic drive-in theatre is a nostalgic throwback to simpler times. From the retro marquee to the old-school concession stand serving buttery popcorn and fries, the whole experience feels like stepping into a scene from a 1960s summer night.
Located just outside Bloomfield, the Mustang runs double features throughout the warmer months, usually from June to September. Families pull in with kids in pajamas, couples bring cozy blankets, and everyone tunes their radios to the movie audio while settling in for a night of film under the open sky. If you’ve never been to a drive-in, this is the perfect place to try it — and if you have, this one will hit you right in the nostalgic feels.
10. Grab a Coffee from a Cozy Café
No weekend in PEC is complete without a good coffee stop — or a few. The County is full of charming cafés where you can sip, snack, and take a little pause between adventures. One of the most beloved is Beacon Bike + Brew in Picton — part café, part bike shop, all-around good vibes. In Wellington, Creekside Café serves up cozy brunch plates and strong coffee in a warm, welcoming setting that feels like a local secret.
For something sweet and low-key, PECish Baking Co. is a must — come for the fresh-baked pastries, stay for the excellent coffee. Right next to Books & Company, Lily’s Café pairs espresso with European-style treats and is perfect for a slow morning with a book in hand. The Counter Bar, tucked inside The Royal Hotel, is your go-to for a more elevated (but still laid-back) experience — ideal for a pre-winery caffeine fix. And if you find yourself near Bloomfield, Citizen Frances is a stylish, airy café with a cool aesthetic and seriously good brews.

11. Explore Base31
If you’re in the mood for something unexpected, head to Base31 — a former WWII air training base that’s been transformed into one of the most creative and dynamic spaces in Prince Edward County. What was once a series of utilitarian military buildings is now a buzzing cultural hub, home to art installations, live music, local food vendors, and a rotating lineup of events.
The site’s industrial charm is part of the appeal. You can catch a concert inside the cavernous Drill Hall, browse a gallery in a converted barracks, or grab a drink at The Commissary, an open-air patio featuring local food and live music. There’s even an escape room for a bit of quirky fun. Base31 perfectly blends history and innovation — whether you’re there to dance, dine, or just wander, it’s one of the most unique spots to experience in PEC.
12. Treat Yourself to Slickers Ice Cream
Nothing says summer quite like a cold scoop of ice cream, and in Prince Edward County, that scoop has to come from Slickers. This iconic County staple is famous for its small-batch, homemade ice cream made with local ingredients and unexpected flavours that somehow just work. Think Apple Pie (yes, with real pie crust pieces) or the fan-favourite Campfire, which tastes like roasted marshmallows and memories.
You’ll find Slickers in both Bloomfield and Picton, and yes the lines can be long on a hot afternoon, but they move fast, and trust us, it’s worth it. Whether you go classic with vanilla bean or adventurous with Rhubarb Ginger, this stop is an essential PEC summer experience. Just don’t forget the napkins — things can get delightfully messy.

🌻 Bonus: Visit a Sunflower Field in August
If you’re visiting Prince Edward County in late July or August, you’re in for a golden treat. Sunflower Fields Ice Cream Shoppe near Picton becomes a dreamy destination when the sunflowers are in full bloom — stretching across the fields like a scene from a storybook. It’s a perfect stop for a walk, a photo op, or just soaking in the summer beauty of the County at its peak.
The sunflower bloom typically lasts a few short weeks, so it’s best to check their website or Instagram for updates before visiting. And yes, they also serve homemade ice cream, so you can grab a scoop and stroll among the blooms : talk about a picture-perfect summer moment. Don’t forget your camera and some comfy shoes; this is one of those magical little PEC experiences you’ll want to remember.

I knew Tuscany would be beautiful… but I didn’t expect to feel so enchanted by its smaller towns.
Here are four stops that completely stole the show on my trip:
1. San Gimignano
Known as the Manhattan of the Middle Ages (because of its towers), this hilltop town has views for days and some of the best gelato I’ve ever had. It’s busy, yes, but worth every step. Go early or stay late to see it glow in the golden hour.
2. Monteriggioni
This one feels like a secret. A perfectly preserved medieval village perched on a hill, surrounded by ancient stone walls. You can walk the ramparts, sip wine in the tiny square, and imagine what life looked like hundreds of years ago.
3. Siena
Florence’s historical rival, and a city with serious soul. The Piazza del Campo is stunning, but it’s the backstreets that really charmed me. Don’t skip the Duomo, it’s easily one of the most incredible churches I’ve ever seen.
4. Lucca
Soft light, quiet charm, and tree-lined walls you can walk or bike on. Lucca doesn’t try too hard, and that’s what makes it special. It’s a town for slow mornings and long lunches.
Swipe through to see a little glimpse of each.
And if you’ve ever been, tell me: which one stole your heart? ❤️
