Hotel Gault : Old Montreal’s hidden treasure

When I think of Old Montreal, I think of its gorgeous architecture, it’s beautiful building and just how charming it actually is. Well what if I told you that Hotel Gault brings all of that together. Located in the heart of Old Montreal, this hotel is the perfect mix of old and new, of charm and practicality, of luxury and coziness. Here is what you need to know for your next visit!

Let’s step back in time

Built during Montreal’s Golden Age, the building that houses Hotel Gault has a long history. That same year, the population of Montreal reached 100 000 inhabitants, making it the most prosperous and the richest city in all of Canada. The economy is booming and Old Montreal is getting a new look. In the second half of the 19th century, other buildings, like the Marché Bonsecour, the Merchants Bank of Canada or the Banque Molson, also adorn the streets of Old Montreal.

In 1871, The Gault Brothers & Co opened its doors. Known as the “Cotton King of Canada”, Andrew Frederick Gault made a fortune selling dry goods, and later, cotton. He intended to use the Gault Brothers & Co building as a warehouse and store.

Since 2002, this century old architectural treasure is a luxury hotel that holds the names of Hotel Gault in memory of the Gault brothers.

The experience

It is no surprise that the website Trip to Discover names Hotel Gault one of the top 10 hotels in Old Montreal. Not only is the outside architecture absolutely stunning and somewhat reminiscent of Parisian buildings, but the inside is just as stunning. Each of their 30 suites are decorated with a minimalist style that prioritizes both beauty and comfort.

With rooms ranging from loft to full on apartment, you can choose the stay that fits your need (for reference, we had a Junior Suite during our stay). Each bedroom has a cozy king size bed (with some of the most comfortable pillows I’ve slept on), a desk, a seating area and a large bathroom with a deep bathtub.

The highlight however is, without a doubt, the views from the floor to ceiling windows!

If you want to make the most of your stay and enjoy the room, room service is available 24/7 and offers a small menu of snacks and drinks. But the real treat is their in house breakfast which you can either eat in your room or at the restaurant.

The hotel also has a gym room available and multiple special offers depending on the time of year.

Sometimes, all you need for your adventure is a good chat with ChatGPT 😉. I asked for a waterfall hike within 2 hours of home, and it delivered: Egan Chutes Provincial Park!

If you haven’t been, this hidden gem near Bancroft is a waterfall wonderland. There’s a short and sweet trail to the first falls, but if you’re up for more, you can extend the hike to about 10 km to see two more incredible waterfalls. The sound, the mist, and that perfect photo op… 📸

Have you ever used ChatGPT to help plan an adventure? Tell me in the comments—or maybe try it for your next hike! 🌲

Want to catch one of nature’s most unique autumn shows? This weekend might be your last chance to see the larches at Mer Bleue Bog near Ottawa before they lose their golden glow! 🍂

Mer Bleue is a stunning and rare spot, known for its boreal-like landscape. It’s one of the largest bogs in southern Ontario, with boardwalk trails weaving through the wetland, giving you up-close views of unique plants, wildlife, and that iconic golden hue of the tamarack (larch) trees.

Larches are unique—they’re the only conifers that turn golden and lose their needles in fall. And it happens quickly, so if you’re planning a visit, this weekend is your chance to soak in that magic! Bring your camera and your warm layers! 🍁✨

Don’t wait! Tag a friend who loves fall adventures and make it happen before the season slips away.
